3 LANGUAGES

Three Languages at the Same Time

Is it possible to learn three languages simultaneously from scratch?

With this experiment, I hope to show that the brain is capable of learning at any age—even three languages at once—provided that we respect its natural learning process: beginning exclusively with sounds.

The River and the Little Fish

A baby does not study grammar. First, it becomes familiar with a «river» of sounds in which it cannot distinguish where one word begins and another ends. Gradually, the brain starts detecting patterns and begins to recognize «little fish» in that river: individual words whose meaning it does not yet know but is nevertheless able to identify.

My Approach to This Challenge

  • Passive sound immersion: I will listen to Chinese, Russian, and Greek radio every day, making use of any free moments—while walking, shopping, or doing household chores—for up to two hours in total.
  • No pressure: At first, I will understand nothing. I will simply allow the sounds to accompany me.
  • Pattern recognition: I trust that my brain will gradually discover those «little fish» through context, repetition, and similarity.
  • Technological support: Unlike a baby, I can use artificial intelligence to clarify the meaning or spelling of words once my brain has already recognized the underlying pattern.

The Plan

During the first weeks, I will do nothing but listen until the continuous stream of sounds begins to break into recognizable units and I can identify individual words. At that point, I will start imitating their pronunciation, even though I may not yet know what they mean.

At the same time, I will ask AI about the words I can clearly recognize. Later, I will incorporate the 100, 200, and eventually 500 most frequent words, together with common everyday expressions.

I expect these two paths—continuous exposure and high-frequency vocabulary—to converge and produce a series of small «Aha!» moments, when the sounds I hear finally begin to make sense and become increasingly motivating.

My goal is to demonstrate that, after a few months, the brain will have completed much of its auditory statistical phase and that, supported by the most common vocabulary and expressions available online, I will be able to communicate at a basic level in all three languages.
